Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than gas boilers, so system design matters far more. We carry out a full room-by-room heat loss calculation, check your insulation and radiator sizes, and specify the pump, cylinder and emitters as a complete system — not just a box on the wall outside.

Done properly, a heat pump keeps a well-insulated Scottish home comfortable all year round, with lower carbon emissions and — especially compared with oil, LPG or electric heating — lower running costs.

Funding and grants in Scotland

Home Energy Scotland offers grant and loan funding towards heat pump installations for eligible households — currently up to £7,500 as a grant (with a higher amount for rural households), plus optional interest-free loan top-ups. Funding requires an MCS certified installer, which we are. We can talk you through what applies to your home as part of a free survey.

From survey to switch-on

We handle the whole project: heat loss survey, system design, any radiator upgrades, the outdoor unit and cylinder installation, commissioning, MCS certification and handover. You get one team responsible for the whole job, start to finish.

Do air source heat pumps work in the Scottish climate?

Yes. Modern heat pumps operate efficiently at temperatures well below freezing and are widely used in far colder climates such as Norway and Sweden. Correct system design and sizing — which is where we focus — matters much more than the weather.

What funding is available for heat pumps in Scotland?

Home Energy Scotland currently offers eligible households a grant of up to £7,500 towards a heat pump (more for rural properties), with optional interest-free loan funding on top. An MCS certified installation is required to qualify — we are MCS certified and can advise on your eligibility.

Will I need to replace my radiators?

Sometimes. Heat pumps run at lower temperatures, so some radiators may need to be upsized to deliver the same warmth. Our heat loss survey identifies exactly which, if any, need changed before you commit to anything.
